This sudden incident prompted the Boeing 777 with 389 passengers to land back at Pearson Airport.

The airline reported that flight AC872 experienced an engine problem soon after departing. The plane took off around 8:45 p.m. and landed back at Pearson at 9:50 p.m.

“After the aircraft landed, it was inspected by airport response vehicles as per normal operating processes, and it taxied to the gate on its own,” Air Canada told Global News.

“The aircraft will be taken out of service for further evaluation by our maintenance and engineering professionals,” it added.

The Greater Toronto Airport Authority expressed that the Toronto Pearson’s fire department arrived at the scene after the plane landed safely.

Moreover, video footage showed what looked like the aircraft landing with an orange flashing glow, seeming visible flames.

While no injuries or victims were reported, passengers were put on another aircraft, and the flight was rescheduled for a 1:32 a.m. departure the next day.

This is not the first time the airline has presented an incident like this, as about two weeks ago, Air Canada had a plane leave Pearson Airport and return shortly after takeoff due to engine issues.

Additionally, a May 27 flight from Toronto to Delhi also had an engine problem and had to return to Pearson Airport.
