(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – In the aftermath of the second presidential debate, Taylor Swift did not surprise anyone who followed her political leanings when she announced her decision to support Kamala Harris.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote on Instagram.
Swift praised Harris as “a steady-handed, gifted leader,” adding, “I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Fresh from her Eras Tour in Europe, Swift mentioned she had done her “research” before making her choice and encouraged her fans to do the same.
The “Cruel Summer” singer explained that she decided to publicly endorse Harris after a fake image surfaced falsely showing her supporting the Republican candidate, Donald Trump.
Despite outlining her reasons for backing Harris, Swift stopped short of telling her fans to follow suit. Instead, she urged them to research the issues themselves.
“If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most,” she advised.
Furthermore, Swift’s statement was part of an Instagram caption attached to a photo of her with her cat, Benjamin Button.
The choice of this particular image is thought to reference the backlash against Republican VP candidate Senator JD Vance, who in 2021 made a dismissive comment about Democratic women, calling them “childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives.”
Early in her career, Swift steered clear of politics, but that changed in 2018. She broke her silence to oppose Marsha Blackburn’s Senate campaign in Tennessee, her home state.
This pivotal moment in Swift’s political journey was captured in her 2020 documentary, “Miss Americana.”
“She votes against the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which is just basically protecting us from domestic abuse and stalking,” Swift said of Blackburn in the film.
