In a move he alleges undermines America’s global presence and impact, former President Barack Obama used an emotional farewell speech to attack President Trump’s bold reforms at USAID, labeling it a colossal mistake.
While the establishment elites mourned the agency’s dismantling, Trump successfully ended decades of wasteful foreign aid spending that drained American taxpayer dollars with little accountability or benefit to the nation’s interests.
President Trump delivered on his America First promise by ordering Secretary of State Marco Rubio to absorb the 60-year-old foreign aid agency into the State Department.
The move ends USAID’s independent status and redirects its functions to a new program called “America First,” which will ensure proper oversight while advancing U.S. national interests – something the previous agency consistently failed to do.
Trump has repeatedly criticized USAID as being “run by radical left lunatics” and pointed out the “tremendous fraud” plaguing the agency.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk went even further, accurately describing the organization as “a criminal organization” that wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on questionable foreign projects while America’s own infrastructure crumbled.
The establishment’s predictable meltdown was on full display during the June 30 videoconference.
Obama called the reforms “a colossal mistake” and “a tragedy,” while former President George W. Bush lamented the changes to his pet projects.
Their emotional pleas revealed how deeply entrenched the foreign aid establishment has become in Washington’s swamp, resisting any attempt at accountability or prioritizing American interests.
Moreover, the star-studded farewell event included an appearance by liberal activist and U2 frontman Bono, who recited a poem and criticized the reforms.
The singer’s involvement highlights how USAID has become a favored cause among global elites, who prefer to spend American tax dollars abroad rather than addressing pressing domestic needs.
For decades, USAID operated with minimal oversight while sending billions of American taxpayer dollars overseas.
Many of these funds supported left-wing causes, dubious NGOs, and corrupt foreign governments – all while the citizens struggled with inflation, crime, and economic hardship brought on by the very globalist policies these elites champion.
The restructuring will redirect American resources toward addressing American problems first – a fundamental principle of President Trump’s vision.
By bringing the agency under direct State Department control, the administration ensures that foreign aid will now be dispensed only when it clearly serves America’s strategic interests, not the globalist agenda of unelected bureaucrats and international organizations.
Trump’s reforms maintain critical programs, such as PEPFAR, that enjoy genuine bipartisan support, while eliminating wasteful spending and radical initiatives.
The emotional speeches from former presidents and celebrities will not change the fundamental truth: Americans elected Donald Trump to drain the swamp and put America first.
The USAID reforms are just the latest example of the President delivering on his promises to the American people, despite the complaints from establishment elites.
