This urgent recall highlights another instance of safety risks in vehicles made on American soil now tainted with overseas production faults.
For affected car owners, their safety depends on immediate action from Honda and swift inspections.
Honda Motor is recalling more than 259,000 vehicles in the US over a faulty brake pedal, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said this week.
The models implicated in this recall include the 2021-2025 Acura TLX, 2023-2025 Acura MDX, and the 2023-2025 Honda Pilot.
The issue originates from a poorly secured brake pedal pivot pin, which may cause the pedal to shift, potentially increasing crash risks.
Though there have been three warranty claims linked to this defect, no injuries or deaths have been reported yet.
Nonetheless, the defect causes unintended brake application, abnormal pedal feel, brake malfunction, and brake lights that may stay on even if the brake pedal isn’t applied.
Honda faced this critical issue as early as April 2024 and confirmed it by June 5.
Factory relocations contributed to this problem, seeing the production shift from a U.S. facility, later closed, to a new plant in Mexico that uses advanced sensor technology to avoid previously seen defects.
Notification letters are scheduled for mailing by July 28 to all impacted car owners. Honda advises them to visit dealers for free inspections and repairs.
Approximately 1% of the recalled vehicles are estimated to be affected, which might seem relatively small, but the repercussions could be significant.
Honda began dealership notifications on June 13, and the company insists owners consult both NHTSA and Honda’s recall lookup sites for further confirmation.
America Honda explained, “The issue could also cause an abnormal brake pedal feeling during operation, illuminate the brake malfunction light in the instrument cluster, or cause the vehicle’s brake lights to remain lit even when the brake pedal is not applied.”
It’s a sobering reminder of global manufacturing changes and their influence on quality and safety.
With safety at stake, Honda must act promptly, and owners are urged to prioritize this recall action immediately.
Honda is recalling more than 259,000 of its cars across the U.S. due to a problem that can cause the brake pedal to shift out of position, potentially interfering with a driver's ability to stop or slow down. https://t.co/OUBPEUcxQl
