Making controversy within the conservative community, Elon Musk has fiercely criticized a new Republican spending big, beautiful bill, saying that it increases the country’s deficit.

The tech billionaire’s surprising criticism reveals growing tensions between fiscal conservatives and the administration, raising questions about whether Trump’s spending priorities truly align with his promises to drain the swamp.
Musk did not mince words when discussing the House-approved Republican spending bill during an upcoming CBS interview.
Despite his role heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk expressed frustration that the legislation undermines his team’s efforts to trim government waste.
“I was, like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decrease it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk stated.
The criticism marks a significant departure for Musk, who has been a frequent White House visitor since Trump’s election victory.
According to consultancy estimates, his DOGE initiative has reportedly saved American taxpayers $170 billion by targeting government waste and redundancy, leading to approximately 275,000 government job cuts.
The bill in question aims to extend the 2017 tax cuts, increase defense spending, and fund mass deportations.
Republicans asserted that these measures will stimulate growth and ultimately reduce spending in key areas.
Nevertheless, budget analysts project it will increase the federal deficit by $3.8 trillion over the next decade and add about $600 billion to next year’s deficit alone.
“I think a bill can be big or beautiful. I don’t know if it can be both,” the tech billionaire said.
Musk’s pointed jab at Trump’s description of the bill as “big, beautiful” highlights the growing divide between fiscal conservatives and those supporting the legislation.
With the national debt already standing at a staggering $36.2 trillion and the deficit expected to approach $2 trillion by year’s end, many conservatives are questioning whether this spending aligns with Trump’s economic agenda.
The bill has also exposed fractures within the Republican Party itself, with some members opposing it on fiscal grounds.
This internal tension reflects the ongoing battle between establishment Republicans and those advocating for stricter spending controls.
Perhaps most concerning for conservatives is the bill’s proposal to raise the debt ceiling by $4 trillion.
After years of criticizing Democrat spending, this move has left many GOP voters questioning whether their elected officials are truly committed to fiscal responsibility or simply changing the beneficiaries of government largesse.
Musk has begun scaling back his government involvement to focus on his private companies, including Tesla, SpaceX and X.
His experience battling the federal bureaucracy has left him describing it as “much worse than I realized.”
The spending bill now faces significant challenges in the Senate, where fiscal hawks may find Musk’s criticism provides valuable ammunition against what many conservatives see as an abandonment of responsible government spending principles.
For patriotic Americans concerned about the nation’s financial future, this battle over fiscal priorities represents a critical test of whether GOP leadership will honor its promises to put America’s economic house in order.
