(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Although local law enforcement is grieving the loss of an officer and a deputy who were recently killed, Joe Biden decided he just does not care as he will go ahead with his planned visit to Syracuse, New York, to sell the CHIPS and Science Act.
During the trip, Biden will announce a significant grant from the legislation, as reported by CNY Central News.
This decision follows the deaths of Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen and Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Michael Hoosock, who were killed in the line of duty during a shootout on April 14.
Deeply affected by the losses, local police officers told the White House they were concerned about the timing of Biden’s visit, according to Jeff Moran, president of the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association.
“The department expressed their concerns to the Biden administration regarding his visit, and the quick turnaround of a Syracuse police officer being buried and an Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputy being buried, and then the manpower that it would take and everything that our members have been through in the past week,” he said.
“Those concerns were expressed to the Biden administration and the Biden administration elected to move forward with the visit,” Moran explained.
Syracuse Police Chief Joseph Cecile stated that although the department did not ask for a rescheduling, they “did, however, in early conversations with the Secret Service, express our concern about SPD’s capacity to adequately cover this detail, as we were grieving the loss of two fallen officers,” Cecile said.
The local police community had hoped for a delay to properly grieve and recover from their recent loss, according to CNY Central News. Meanwhile, Republican New York Rep. Brandon Williams and other New York congressional members have publicly asked Biden to consider rescheduling.
Other New York politicians like Rep. Elise Stefanik and Rep. Claudia Tenney also supported postponing the visit to ease the burden on local law enforcement.
“We’ll have to wait to see how many volunteers actually sign up for the detail but at this point in time, we still have members out on administrative leave because of the critical incident and our protocol,” Moran mentioned.
“I just, I can’t emphasize enough, I mean, we’re crushed. We’re heartbroken. The result of the loss of Officer retention. And now we’re being told that we have to fill President Biden’s detail,” he concluded.
