Fetterman Stopped Dead

(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – In one of the more ridiculous developments involving high-profile Democrats, freshman US Senator John Fetterman will be forced to “wear pants” on the Senate floor due to special bipartisan legal action.

On Wednesday, the US Senate overwhelmingly passed a “Show Our Respect To the Senate” (SHORTS) resolution, in what Breitbart News characterized as “a rare bipartisan milestone.”

The legislation restored the official dress code in the Senate. It resulted from a controversy that emerged earlier in September when Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) decided to end the typical dress code.

His move was “in deference to Fetterman,” as the first-term Pennsylvania senator kept wearing shorts and sweatshirts, displaying his “working-class persona,” the report notes.

The Senate Majority Leader was criticized from both sides of the aisle.

“[Schumer’s] decision is apparently connected to the desires of Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, who enjoys parading around in gym shorts and a hoodie. Why would his desires receive such precedence?” asked Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan.

The SHORTS resolution passed unanimously and co-sponsored by Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT).

“As senators, we should demonstrate a high level of reverence for the institution in which we serve — and our attire is one of the most basic expressions of that respect,” Romney said in a statement.

“I’m proud to stand with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to call for a return to a level of dress becoming of the Senate,” the Utah Republican added.

Last week, Fetterman sparked further controversy after presiding over Senate proceedings in shorts and a baggy shirt, The New York Post points out.

This led Republican US Senator Susan Collins of Maine to joke that she would follow suit and show up on Capitol Hill wearing a bikini.

Almost all GOP members of the Senate signed a letter complaining about Schumer’s dress code change.

Under the SHORTS resolution, men on the Senate floor must wear “a coat, tie, and slacks or other longer pants.”

“Fetterman responded by mocking the Senate, posting a meme with a photo of Kevin James [as] Doug Hefferman, a fictional working-class hero on the TV series King of Queens who wore shorts as a delivery driver,” Breitbart notes.
