Hunter, GOP Reach Agreement

Congress

(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – In a significant development advancing the congressional probe against the Biden family, House Republicans achieved victory by having Hunter Biden agree to an appearance before Congress in a closed-door deposition.

Scheduled for February 28, 2024, this deposition is part of the broader impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, with several other Biden family members and associates also set to testify in the coming weeks.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan made the announcement in a joint statement: “Hunter Biden will appear before our committees for a deposition on February 28, 2024. His deposition will come after several interviews with Biden family members and associates. We look forward to Hunter Biden’s testimony.”

The agreement follows a letter sent by Comer and Jordan to Hunter’s defense counsel, Abbe Lowell, indicating their readiness to issue new subpoenas to ensure Hunter’s congressional deposition.

In response, Lowell stated that his client would comply with the deposition if new subpoenas were issued following the House’s floor vote authorizing the impeachment inquiry. House Republicans initiated the process in September, initially without a formal floor vote.

Tensions surrounding this issue escalated on January 10 during the House Oversight Committee’s markup hearing, where Hunter briefly appeared. The atmosphere became charged when Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) directly confronted Hunter, who was seated among the audience.

Shortly after, Hunter hastily exited the hearing just as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) prepared to speak. His departure preceded the Oversight and Judiciary Committees’ resolutions to hold him in contempt. In defiance, Hunter ignored previous subpoenas, opting to hold a press conference instead of attending a scheduled deposition on December 13.

Before Hunter’s deposition, the committee plans to interview Biden family associates Mervyn Yan, Eric Schwerin, Rob Walker, Tony Bobulinski, and Joe Langston. As reported by the New York Post, Kevin Morris, Hunter’s friend and financial supporter, was also interviewed as part of the impeachment inquiry. Morris was present with Hunter and Lowell at the Oversight Committee’s contempt markup.

Chairmen Comer, Jordan, and Jason Smith of the Ways and Means Committee are spearheading the impeachment inquiry, which focuses on Joe Biden’s involvement in his son’s foreign business activities and IRS whistleblower allegations concerning the Department of Justice’s handling of the criminal probe into Hunter.
