(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Have you tried marijuana? If so, according to a recent poll and reporting by Breitbart News, you are among the 50 percent of Americans who have done so.
Specifically, half of the U.S. population has tried marijuana, but only a smaller fraction uses it frequently, according to a recent Gallup poll. The survey, released on Thursday, showed that 50% of participants had used marijuana at some point, and 17% reported regular usage.
The numbers have seen a slight increase; a poll from January 2022 reported that 48% of participants had tried the substance.
When divided based on political affiliations, 57% of Democrats admitted to trying marijuana, compared to 52% of independents and 39% of Republicans. Additionally, 53% of male participants and 44% of females indicated they had used marijuana.
Age seemed to have a minor influence on these figures. Among those aged 35-54, 51% had tried marijuana. This is compared to the 49% in the 18-34 age bracket and the 47% aged 55 and above.
Gallup stated, “As marijuana has become more available to Americans and legal in an increasing number of states, their reports of use and experimentation have increased too.”
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a Democratic presidential contender, has advocated for the federal legalization of marijuana, suggesting that states should determine their cannabis laws without federal intervention.
Currently, 23 states and Washington, DC, permit recreational marijuana use. The latest state to join this list is Minnesota. As of a recent legislative change in May, signed by Gov. Tim Walz (D), adults over 21 in Minnesota can have up to two ounces of marijuana in public and possess up to two pounds. This law is already in effect.
The Gallup survey was carried out from July 3 to July 27 and had 1,105 participants. The margin of error for the poll stood at four percentage points.
