(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – The 2024 GOP presidential nomination battle between former allies Donald Trump and Nikki Haley is heating up and turning personal as the Trump campaign has reportedly sent Haley a cruel mocking gift, leading Haley’s side to fire back by calling Trump “creepy” and “desperate.”
In 2017, Nikki Haley quit as South Carolina’s governor to become then-President Trump’s US Ambassador to the UN, a post she held for two years.
In 2021, she vowed not to run for the GOP presidential nomination if Trump did, but two years later, she changed her mind.
The former president has slammed her over her “disloyalty,” recently nicknaming her “birdbrain.”
In the latest act of the war between their presidential campaigns, on Sunday, Trump’s team left a “gift” for Haley outside her hotel room in Iowa – a birdcage and some bird food, The New York Post reports.
The cage had a sticky note reading, “From: Trump Campaign.”
“After a day of campaigning, this is the message waiting for me outside my hotel room…,” Haley wrote in an X post sharing a photo of Trump’s gift.
Her post featured the hashtags #PrettyPatheticTryAgain and #YouJustMadeMyCaseForMe.
The former South Carolina governor’s campaign later expressed “bewilderment” at the rival team’s actions.
“This behavior is weird, creepy, and desperate from a former president feeling the pressure,” Betsy Ankney, Haley’s campaign manager, commented in a statement.
“It’s more proof that it’s time to leave the drama behind. America is better than this. Let’s go,” Ankney added.
Several days earlier, the 45th president of the United States slammed his former UN ambassador in a Truth Social post, using the “birdbrain” nickname he invented for her.
“MAGA, or I, will never go for Birdbrain Nikki Haley. Birdbrain doesn’t have the TALENT or TEMPERAMENT to do the job. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.
The Post notes that it remains “anyone’s guess” why he decided to call Haley “birdbrain” but that he has been slapping nicknames on his political enemies for quite some time now.
Thus, he calls Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis, another former ally, “Meatball Ron” and “DeSanctimonious.”
Going across the aisle, Trump has called Hillary Clinton “Crooked Hillary” and President Joe Biden – “Crooked Joe” and “Sleepy Joe.”
