This week, Tesla’s manufacturing facility in Germany was compelled to halt operations due to a deliberate act of vandalism by an organization calling themselves the “Volcano Group,” The Daily Wire reports.
The leftist terrorists destroyed a high-voltage pylon. This incident led to a significant power outage affecting not only the factory but also the neighboring locale, according to Deutsche Welle, a German public broadcasting service
“We sabotaged Tesla today,” the group claimed responsibility in a communicated statement.
It elaborated that their specific target was “the electricity supply.”
The German state of Brandenburg’s police department reported that this act of terrorism severed electrical service to thousands of residences in the vicinity, disturbing the daily lives of approximately 60,000 people.
Although power was largely restored to the affected region within the day, Tesla’s Gigafactory in Grünheide remained without electricity.
“The attack on the electricity supply is an attack on our critical infrastructure. This must now be clarified and punished quickly. Violence and sabotage must not be a means of conflict,” commented the Federal Minister of Economics, Robert Habeck.
Tesla anticipates a significant delay before resuming production at the facility.
The company, known for its capacity to manufacture 500,000 vehicles annually, is facing a setback that CEO Elon Musk has expressed interest in overcoming, aiming to double this production figure.
Musk criticized the attackers’ rationale, suggesting a misalignment with environmental objectives.
“These are either the dumbest eco-terrorists on Earth or they’re puppets of those who don’t have good environmental goals,” he said
“Stopping production of electric vehicles, rather than fossil fuel vehicles, ist extrem dumm,” he added.
The phrase “ist extrem dumm” translates from German as “is extremely dumb.”
The financial toll on Tesla due to this incident is projected to reach into the hundreds of millions of dollars, as per German news outlets.
“We are deeply, deeply shocked by what happened today. Hopefully it will become clear over the course of this week whether we can start again at the beginning of next week,” reacted Tesla’s spokesperson André Thierig.
