Prominent Brazilian influencer Maria Sofia Valim, at the young age of 19, died not long after the surgery, People Magazine reported, as cited by The Daily Caller.
Her father, Vitor Valim, the mayor of Caucaia, a city of over 300,000 people in Northeast Brazil, announced her passing on Instagram.
Vitor Valim expressed his profound grief to his followers, explaining the unfortunate turn of events that led to the influencer’s passing.
“It is with the deepest pain and sadness that I inform everyone of the passing of my beloved daughter Sofia,” the mayor wrote.
“Unfortunately, her body did not survive,” he added in his message to social media, as noted by People.
Vitor Valim extended his heartfelt thanks to those who supported him and his family during this challenging time.
“I thank everyone for the prayers and affection dedicated to me and my family in this moment of extreme suffering,” he conveyed.
He also requested privacy and understanding from the public, indicating that the wake and burial ceremonies would be limited to family members only.
Maria Sofia’s death occurred shortly after her father had announced that she had found a donor match and had undergone a successful transplant surgery, a procedure filled with hope and anticipation for a recovery.
“After following the legal procedures and joining the liver transplant queue, Sofia was able to find a donor due to the urgency of her case,” her father had previously written.
However, the situation rapidly deteriorated, as he later shared.
“This morning a compatible donor was found and the surgery was carried out successfully. However, the next 48 hours will still be observation so that we can know if Sofia’s body will accept the new organ,” the father wrote.
Before her untimely death, Maria Sofia, an aspirant to a career in law, had shared a joyous photo of herself at a Taylor Swift concert.
Following the news of her passing, fans and friends have taken to social media to express their condolences and to pay tribute to her.
She is remembered as a bright and cheerful young woman whose life was tragically cut short.
